Areas of work in inclusive politics
Electoral & Peace Process Support
We provide electoral and democratization support that includes technical support to election management bodies and other stakeholders such as civil society coalitions and government agencies. Build Up’s unique approach to this highly technical work is to apply a peacebuilding lens in order to build consensus and mitigate conflict through the democratization process, and to integrate appropriate digital tools and emerging technologies in order to increase the reach and impact of processes. We have implemented a range of significant initiatives in this area across Sudan and the Somali Region.

Digital Dialogues & Consultations
We implement digital dialogues and consultations to bring a greater number of, and more diverse, voices into peace processes and democratic governance processes. We design and deploy end-to-end processes that combine different deliberative platforms and communication channels to cater to the specific needs of a context, taking into account barriers to access due to literacy, digital divides, and gender. We use AI tools for sensemaking, to support facilitation and to help find bridging positions. We have implemented digital dialogues and consultations in Yemen, Sudan, Kenya, Somali Region, Tunisia, and across West Africa, partnering with actors ranging from local activists and pro-peace coalitions to INGOs and UN missions.
Barometers & Polling
We design and implement barometers and polls on issues related to conflict and peace, using participatory methods to ensure all data is collected, analysed and shared in ways that are both scientifically rigorous and rigorously inclusive. We believe people living in conflict must be the owners of data processes, and that hiding behind technical expertise and analytical black boxes is not in the interest of peace. We use digital data collection and dashboarding tools that are adapted to context, and can work in low-tech, low-bandwidth environments. We have implemented barometer and polls in Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Guinea Bissau, Kyrgyzstan and the Somali Region on issues ranging from justice reform to the state of peace and social cohesion.
